RED – GRANDMOTHER MOON
“Grandmother, why do we call the moon Grandmother?
Why is red her color of the rainbow?”
“To answer your question, my child, we must first look at the changes she goes through each month.

“Since all light comes from the Sun, moonlight is a reflection of sunlight. As Moon makes her journey around the earth, so does the amount of moonlight we see change.
“Let’s begin with New Moon. This is when the illuminated side of Moon is facing the sun, so it appears invisible to us. This happens when Sun, Moon, and Earth are aligned with Moon between Sun and Earth. It is a time to enter the stillness within and embrace the peace that darkness brings.
“Next is when the amount of light we see steadily increases. This is a time to believe in the magic of your dreams and work to manifest them.
“Halfway through her journey, the illuminated side of Moon is facing us. This happens when Sun, Moon, and Earth are aligned with Earth between Sun and Moon. When Moon is fully illuminated, it is a time to fully celebrate the joy of being.
“Finally, the amount of light we see steadily decreases. This is a time to evaluate our choices and let go of those that are hindering our growth, physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually.”
“Grandmother, what does her journey have to do with the color red?”
Grandmother gave a hug, then replied. “Earth’s river of life is her waters. All creation that walks, swims, flies has blood as their river of life. Both Earth’s waters and Creation’s red river of life responds to the pull of Grandmother Moon. We see the result of this pull in the changing tides. Both Moon and all females go through a cycle each month.
“And so it is my child, the reason that red is Grandmother’s color of the rainbow.”
