GREEN – MOTHER EARTH

Grandmother, why do we call the earth Mother?
Why is green her color of the rainbow?”

“What do you love most about your mother?”

“That’s easy … her cooking. She makes every meal delicious, even the good for you stuff! She always said the food is so good because it is prepared with love. We made lots of memories sharing food with others.

“Yes, mothers nurture us beginning in the womb and continuing throughout our entire life. They inspire and guide us with inexhaustible patience. Their unconditional love accepts us regardless of the choices we make.”

“Mother Earth nourishes all from the smallest (one-celled) to the largest (blue whale). She does this through the abundance of her green children. Grandfather tells us they grow everywhere … hottest deserts, land of ice and snow. barren hillsides, fertile soil, within the many waters, canopy above our heads, carpet below our feet. Her patience is seen in the slow and steady growth of plants. Her unconditional love is manifested in continually giving. Even when we destroy an entire forest, plants slowly return to rebuild the land.”

“Grandmother gave a hug, then replied … and so it is my child, the reason that green is Mother Earth’s color of the rainbow.”
