Heirloom

We spent many days gathered around the piano where one of us played and all of us sang.

Dad also spent many hours playing the music that resided within his soul, while mom and I listened attentively.

The piano resided in their dining room for many years. When I moved here, the piano brought joy as my fingers caressed the same keys they both lovingly played. Alas, age worked upon our piano as it is working on me. The piano was no longer as pliable as it was in earlier days and could no longer be tuned.

Wishing to have the piano remain, I called my contractor to see what magic he could do. The main pieces were used to make the corner shelves above my chair in the living room.

When I sit to read or watch movies, the energy of my beloved parents forms a canopy of love above me. So, what was once a loss was transformed into something wonderful, the same yet different.

The gift from a family member still resides atop this heirloom, a testament that although some things change, love always endures.

The date of this post is when the final transformation of piano to shelves occurred.
